Toggl Track alternative
Toggl Track is an excellent product, and free for up to three people. From the fourth — or as soon as you need billable rates and team reports — it's a per-person, per-month subscription on their servers. Hourexa is the other answer: paid for once, unlimited users, installed on your own server. It does less than Toggl, and we tell you what.
The real difference
Both log hours by project and client and tell you where the team's time goes. Where they part ways is three things you won't see in a feature list.
Toggl: free for up to three people; from the fourth, $9 per user per month on Starter and $16 on Premium, billed annually. Every month, for as long as you use it, and up every time someone new joins. Hourexa: €149 once. With three people or thirty, and the price doesn't change the day the team grows.
Toggl lives on their servers: there is no version you can install on yours. Your hours and your clients are in their house, and the day you leave, you take them out in a file. Hourexa installs on your server — shared hosting is fine — and the database is yours from day one.
We'll be plain. Toggl has apps for Android, iOS, Windows and macOS, browser extensions, automatic tracking, and it integrates with Jira, Asana and your calendar. Hourexa has none of that: you use it in the browser (on your phone too), you track with one button, and it integrates with nothing. If those integrations are part of your working day, stay on Toggl.

The Toggl figures come from toggl.com/pricing, checked on 23 September 2026 from Spain: they publish prices in US dollars, excluding tax, and that's how we quote them. If anything changes, we'll correct this page. And the things in Hourexa's column we don't do, we say so: no apps, no integrations, no Toggl importer.
What it actually costs
With three people or fewer, Toggl is free, and if its free features are enough for you there's nothing to argue about. The honest comparison starts where the paying starts: when there are more than three of you, or when you need billable rates and team reports, which live in the Starter plan. Here are the numbers, at Toggl's cheapest rate (billed annually).
Toggl: free, as long as you can do without rates and team reports. If you need them, Starter: $324 a year. Hourexa: €149, once.
Toggl Starter: $540 a year, every year, for as long as you use it. Premium: $960. Hourexa: €149, once — and it doesn't go up if there are eight of you tomorrow.
Toggl Starter: $1,080 a year. Premium: $1,920. With Hourexa, headcount doesn't change the price: €149, once, and that's it.

Which of the three
If there are three or fewer of you and you don't need billable rates or team reports. Or if its apps, automatic tracking and integrations are part of how you work: there, Toggl is the best in its class, and Hourexa doesn't play.
If there are more than three of you, or there will be. If you'd rather pay once than pay every month for every person. If you want your team's hours and your clients' data on your own server. And if what you need is exactly this: hours by project and client, an hours budget that warns you, and a report for the client.
If you invoice from the tool itself, need timesheet approvals, integrate with Jira or Asana, or want native apps on every device. It's an excellent product and you pay for it every month; a perfectly reasonable choice.
